Condition:
Fine impression and color. Elegant printing. Addition of wax to simulate Western paper. Very good condition; two small worm holes u.l.
Comment:
This is one of Kuniyoshi’s series most influenced by Western art. Many of the images are direct references to specific Western prints. Early impressions have the addition of wax to the surface to create the texture of Western paper. Most impressions encountered have a vertical centerfold, suggesting that it was published as a folding album. Copies without this fold are quite rare.
