The aged Komachi, one of the Six Immortal Poets, is reprimanded by a monk for resting on a stupa (grave marker). He then recognizes her as the famous Komachi, she tells him her story and thereby cleanses her soul. The poem reads: “Were I in Heaven, the stupa would be an ill seat. But here, in the world without, what harm is done?”
